Isn't the submission supposed to be free of charge for real competition?
Money collected from contestants exceeds any prize declared by organizers. The established things are sponsored differently... As a comparison, if some job recruiter collects fees upfront for trying to find you some job, it's illegal but it's totally different area, and could be dramatically and totally wrong... sorry about that. |

NowPublic seems to me to be sort of a scam in general. I have been approached by them for photos a few times.

A juried contest/exhibition is usually charged for. It definitely cuts down on rift-raft entrants.
As to NowPublic it's just like Examiner in the sense it's a crowdsourced medium of news. Those who write for them on NowPublic often search flickr for shots they can use in their story and then NP has a way for you to regulate the rights to that. I've handled my images with them (or more specifically the writer of the moment) on a case by case basis. Interesting thoughts none the less. |
