Who's handy with a soldering iron?

I've taken apart one of my SB-600s and discovered that the reason it won't pop is because the xenon tube is cracked in two (doh!). So I've ordered a replacement tube from Nikon. BUT, I think I need a little help taking this operation to the next level. So if you're handy with a soldering iron and interested in playing with a partially lobotomized SB-600 let me know. The parts should get here in a couple of weeks.

If you live in the Matthews area or want to attempt it at one of the meetings I might be able to help you out!

I'm perfectly fine to bring it to you. Doing it at a meeting is ok too, it sort of depends on when the parts arrive and how long it is until the next meeting. :)

Well, I have a few soldering iron and solder. If it comes in before the meeting we can have a soldering workshop! Let me know so I can bring the stuff. The meeting is a week from today I think.

I think they said it would take a week just for the order to make it through processing to be shipped. At that point they'll notify me of the actual shipping charges and I haven't gotten that notice yet. Still, there's a chance I'll have it by Tuesday.

Do we need to clear soldering with the moderators if we're going to do it at a meeting? I haven't been to one in so long that I'm not even sure what you guys do there anymore.

Might be one of those "easier to get forgiveness" things!

The parts didn't arrive yet. I haven't even been notified that they've been shipped. You can leave soldering irons at home tonight. :)

Thanks

For the future, I don't see why it would matter if you went all tech on us. :) It'd be a great learning experience for anyone who was watching. :) Next time!

My bulb arrived. Want to give this a shot at the next meeting?
